Upgrading 3.54 - 3.6

This is the step I am on:

Step 1) Large table alterations (1/2) (Step 1 of 11)

And this is the error I am receiving:

* Altering post Table (1 of 1)
vB_Database_Alter: fetch_table_info() has not been called successfully.

I re-uploaded all the non-image files using ASCII and then re-uploaded ALL the files several times. I went to look at the SQL tables for a possible repair (because of prior advice on similar issues) and it shows the POST table as 'In use'.

That's where I'm stuck! Any help would be highly appreciated!

So far it may be a false alarm...

I did repair the post table and now the upgrade process allowed me to go onto step 2. My database is nearly 700meg so maybe the server is a bit slow and causing issues.
