    Lots of spammers, probably bots.

Over the last 2 weeks my forum has been under attack from hundreds of spammers posting porn, viagra, ***** extension rubbish all over it.

I have image verification and new members must verify their email address and up until 2 weeks ago, I've never had a problem with spammers. I've had to turn on admin approval to stop them posting all over the place but I believe this has led to some genuine members being deleted.

I'm currently working on upgrading to 3.7.x and aim to have my forum upgraded by the end of the month.

What I want to know is, will upgrading stop the problem and is there anything I can do in the short term to prevent them from joining?

    Thanks,

    Chris

You would need to upgrade to 3.7 - reCAPTCHA support was not available when 3.5 was released.

Also refer to How to Reduce Spam and Registration Bots

Some of the things will not be relevant as they are not available in 3.5 or 3.6 and require 3.7

Shouldn't be a problem I guess as I'll be upgrading in the coming weeks.
