    Usergroup permissions

Hi - I have set up my forums so that new users go into a 'New users' group if they have registered but have less than three posts.

In the usergroup permissions I have

Follow Forum Moderation Rules If no, posts are always placed into moderation queue

    Set to no.

the forum permissions for each forum follow the usegroup default however new users posts are not getting moderated they can post fine.

is something over riding the permissions?

So I fixed this by going into every forum and over riding their permissions and setting 'Follow Forum Moderation Rules' to no, even though this was the usergroup default.

    I'm obviously missing something subtle

Any reason you don't have the registered users usergroup (groupid 2) the new user usergroup? Its better to work with the system instead of agasint it.

Isn't that how people normally do it?

I think I have it all working now.

Created a new user group as a copy of registered, with the same permissions.

Then created a promotion for for registered users to go to my new group wehn they have +n posts.

Then moderate all posts by the original registered group.

Is this suboptimal? I'd love to know now before going to the latest release of VB

        Thanks

Are you saying the way I am doing it is wrong?

From your brief description is it difficult to tell. It sounds like you are on the right track. Check what you have done against the instructions in the link I gave above and make any adjustments as needed.

                You have lost me.

Why are you saying I need to check?

I am moderating new posts for the registered users group.

It is impossible for us to know exactly how you have set it up. There are a number of steps to the set up of this. Compare what you have done to what is in the thread linked to in post #5. If you have done it the same then you are all set. If not, adjust what you have done so that it matches that.

Of course, if you think you have set it up right then you can ignore this advice.

Um - I didn't say it was wrong, Zachery did...

With respect if you don't understand what Zachery posted then I'm not sure you are adding to the thread

It is unlikely that you have looked at the thread linked to. I am not telling you different to Zak. Your post said that you were not sure if you were set right. The thread I linked to is how to set this up.

I followed Lukes instructions, this is why I queried Zachery's comments.

If you can elaborate on Zachery's post I would be delighted.

Zak was checking that you were using the default registered users usergroup as the moderated group and then promoting the users to a new usergroup that you had created and were not trying to do it the other way around. It is unclear in the first post in this thread which way you are trying to do this. If you were trying to do it the other way around then you would be working against the system and making life difficult for yourself when it didn't need to be.

That is exactly what I'm doing.

When you Register you join the 'Registered' usergroup as normal however all your posts are moderated.

When you have three posts you get promoted to a 'registered group - full access' with no moderation.

So I think this is as suggested by Luke?

My apologies for not being clear and thanks for taking the time to respond.
