    Attachments FS vs. DB???

I just moved my almost 5 gigs of attachements to the File System...per the insturction from the Support Team with VB...

    All went smooth as silk!

But that got me to wondering???

What is the ADVANTAGE vs. DISADVANTAGE of both????

If you would make me a Pro and Con list...that would be great.

ESP. as it relates to spead and server loads.

    File system:
    - less load on the database which helps performance
    - smaller database

    Database:
    - easier to backup everything
    - avoids possible consistency problems between attachment records and the actual attachments

Question: I'm about to change to the file system because my database is about 2 gigs, and my site is becoming quite big.

However, I do database backups daily. but currently not for the files on the server. Should I also be running a cron job to backup the files on the server at the same time as the database cron job, (Or at least for the attachment and avatar folder) so it all stays in sync?

If so, does anyone have any suggestions on a specific cron job that could do this, for a seven day rotation?

        Thanks.

... and for load balanced vB?

I'll probably have to post this in the forum as a separate thread, but maybe it'll get noticed here...

We have 7 vBulletin web servers talking to one mysql database server. We're thinking of using a NFS mount for avatars and attachments to reduce database load. Is this a supported solution?
