install problem on live server

Am getting the following error message while running the install script on the live server:

Error description: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user 'xxxxx'@'localhost' (using password: YES) /home/xxxxx/public_html/forums/includes/class_core.php on line 279

The database has failed to connect because you do not have permission to connect to the server. Please confirm the values entered in the 'includes/config.php' file.

Do I need to create the database first, before running the installer? From what I remember, the installer took care of everything on my testing server.

Yes, you need to create a database first.

just the db or all the tables and fields?

Only the database, the install script will then populate it with the tables and fields.
