new posts question

Many of my users use the "new posts" function... a lot of them use it about 5 - 8 times each session and im wondering what sort of search query it is.

Does it create as much load as searching for a random string on the search function or does it use a system that causes less load?

Also, would the "new posts" feature dissapear to usergroups with searching disabled?
