Is it possible to change the post number?

Recently, one of my moderators moved a very old post to a recently created thread and now the post is displayed as number 1 (since the post is the oldest it is displayed first). The original first post in the thread has been moved to number 2 and it now appears as if the author of the old post was also the author of the entire thread. I tried deleting the old post, but since it took the number one spot, it also deletes the entire thread and all posts with it. Is there any way to change the post number, so that the original number 1 is in fact the first post in the thread and the old post is some other number? Is there any way to delete that first post without deleting the entire thread?

You will have to manually change the posting dates so the desired first post is the oldest. Look to the post.dateline field in the database.

You will probably need to rebuild your thread info after making any changes:

Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Update Counters

Once the posts are switched, you can safely delete the old post.
