Guessing here:

I think $forum[forumid] refers to the forum being listed where $forumid refers to the forum you're presently viewing threads in.


Jelsoft really needs to put out a conditional guide with a list of the most commonly used variables and their scope. For instance $bbuserinfo vs. $memberinfo vs $post (all useful but in different ways depending upon whether you're in MEMBERINFO, POSTBIT, or somewhere else) and $forum[forumid] vs $forumid (the example posted above).
