Emptying search index if using Full Text

Am I correct in assuming that if I enable Full Text Search I can empty the search index using this function?

/misc.php?do=emptyindex

My search index currently weighs in at 1.6 GB and... if I could do without it I'd gladly would.

I would empty it from the Admin CP.

Ok, I did that and I then proceeded to repair and optimize tables, just in case.

In the Admin Control Panel Homepage I still get 1.6 GB space taken by the index.

If I go and have a look at the Repair/Optimize control panel, the Post table is shown as 2.12 GB in Data Length and 1.55 in Index Length.

Is there something wrong?
