I want to know how to validate an incoming user password with the corresponding user's password in the database. It looks like the passwords in the user table in the database are encrypted in some way. What do I have to do to a password to be able to check it against these encrypted passwords?

I do not think you can get around it? That is why it was made that way, plus if you ever get your admin area hacked, then all your members can be at risk and including your site. This was talked about in another thread? -
If you forget your password, then you can request another and a email will be send out to that member with new password. You then edit your password in User CP to what ever you want.Comment

This would be for the integration of chat module. Users login to the chat with their same username and password as the forum. This would not be a security risk.
The vBulletin Documentation speaks of Data Managers, but I can't find further information on how to use them.Comment

Try tufat.com http://tufat.com/s_flash_chat_chatroom.htm or http://tufat.com/s_amfphp_chat_room.htm. You can compare it to the one in www.vbulletin.orgComment

I already have a working chat on my website. All I am asking is how are the user passwords encrypted in the database, or how to use the Data Manager to validate one.Comment

What is your chat called? You might need to go to www.vbulletin.org if this is going to result in filed changes? or wait till monday for most of the staff to be online.Comment
