Is there a way to allow Users to choose their Usergroup?

Is is possible to allow Users to assign themselves to a Usergroup?

For example, give them a choice of Usergroups (obviously not a Usergroup like Administrator) and they can choose one as their secondary Usergroup.

Edit a usergroup in the usergroup manager:
    Public Group Settings
    Public (Joinable) Custom Usergroups
    Set this to "Yes".

People will now be able to join this usergroup.

Would it be possible for the Usergroup that is chosen by the user to display in the postbit?

Is your first "yes" in response to my question:

Where in the postbit would the usergroup name display?

I don't see a "Public Group Settings" option in Admin CP > Usergroups > Usergroup Manager > Edit Usergroup

                    Oops. My mistake.

The Public Group Setting IS available for 'Custom Usergroups' not 'Default Usergroups'.

I'm back again with more questions.

Is it possible to make it REQUIRED that users choose a User Group prior to being able to post?

Not sure I understand. No one can post in a standard vB unless they are part of a usergroup.

Heck I barely understand--I can't expect you to either Steve.

I would like users to be required to choose their usergroup. I will create several usergroups but I want the user to choose their usergroup.

Earlier in this thread, zappsan explained how to give users the OPTION of choosing their usergroup but I want to make sure that users DO choose a usergroup.

I don't know of any way to do this with the default vB. I'm pretty sure this requires modifying the code. We cannot officially support code modifications or forums running modified code, however you can try searching or asking for help with this over at www.vbulletin.org.
