First make sure to do a backup of your boards via SSH or something similar. It is the only way to make reliable backups.
Then close your forums to prevent new posts.
Then extract the vBulletin "upload" folder to your desktop. Go into it and delete the install.php file inside the install folder. Then go into your includes folder and find a file called config.php.new. Open it with a program such as notepad. You will notice that it has changed since 3.0.x. Fill it in, making sure to include the right database names and passwords. Once you're done, save it and close. Now rename the config.php.new to just config.php
Now upload all of the files INCLUDING config.php making sure to overwrite the ones on the server.
Then run /install/upgrade.php
