    Animated Avatar not Animated

Hello, and thank you for trying to help me.

I am the site admin for my site. I uploaded a new Avatar, which is an animated gif. The problem is, it is not animating. Any ideas why?

    Thanks again.
    Regards,
    Lou

Yes, this is a setting now. You will need to turn the ability to have animated avatars on for each usergroup you want to be able to do this. Any animated avatars will need to be reuploaded and saved.

Might I inquire as to how I do this? From the Usergroup manager?

Actually, I just checked, as site admin, I already have YES checked as to "can upload animated avatars". Still not animated though.

            A question about this then...

Does this mean my users who have animated gif's as avatars on my v3.0.8 board, will need to reupload their avatars after I upgrade to v3.5?

No, this is not retroactive. It would only affect newly uploaded avatars. Besides you can set this to allow animated avatars if you want.

That's ok, I just wanted to make sure users wouldnt loose the animation after upgrade/before I enable animated avatars.

Ok, I just uploaded a new animated gif, and it is not animated, AGAIN! I can not remember how I fixed it the first time.

I am the site Administrator, I just had a damn animated gif avatar, and now the new one won't work.

Are you uploading a GIF that has larger dimensions than you have defined for your usergroup? If so, and you're using GD for image processing, it may lose the animation when it resizes it. If you use ImageMagick, it should resize and retain the animation.

Ok, I don't know why this is, but when I use the option "Enter Avatar URL:", and enter the url to the gif, the gif is not animated. I just tried using the "Upload an Avatar From Your Computer:" and it worked. Now it is animated again. Not sure why this is. Anyone know why it won't animate when I use the url? In any event, I have the new avatar animated, and I have documented how to do it, so when I change it again, I won't have to bother anyone.
                      Regards,
                      Lou

Maybe it really did work the first time with the URL but you were viewing a cached version of it in your browser? Or as the previous poster said, perhaps it was resized by the server and it lost the animation.

I am also having this issue. I checked the user permissions for my admin account. Everything is checked to yes for animated avatars & sigs.

I upload my avatar and it's still static.

What can I do to fix this?
