    Similar Threads

I've never used the Similar Threads feature, but figured I'd try it out now as I've enabled fulltext mysql search. I cannot get it to work tho for whatever reason.

I have enabled 'Automatic Similar Thread Search' and 'Show Similar Threads', but it still won't show.

    Any ideas why?

You need to rebuild the Similar Thread counter.

I had this problem too. Once I rebuilt the Similar Threads (in the Maintenance/Update Counters tab), it showed up!

        Thanks guys!

          Hello,

Is there a way to show the similar threads on a custom page (one that includes global.php or something)

          Thank you,

Azza... what sort of custom page are you thinking of? Normally this can only be displayed on the showthread template (i.e. the thread's page) - since it displays results based on similarities to that thread. If you were to remove it from the thread display, it wouldn't have a thread to interact with.

              Hello,

              Thank you for the response.

I'm displaying the whole Post content (first post of a certain Thread) in the custom page. The call to the Post ID is based on the url, let's say:

              http://thedomain/articles/19

... where 19 is the ID of the first post.

I've managed to display the Post and some of its info (datelines, replies, authors, etc) correctly by doing $db -> query_first() and vB_BbCodeParser.

But is there a way to get the "similar threads" to appear in my custom page? Is there some functions that'll return the Thread or Post IDs of the similar threads? Maybe something like $similar_threads = get_similar_threads ($postid).

Or, does the similar threads stored in a table in the database? Which one?

I had the same issue, and that fixed it.
                    Thanks very much

When is a thread considered to be a similar thread? Can you change the algorythm?

Somehow threads I would have expected to show up are not displayed. Eg I have a thread called "singer a & singer b - song title a" and a thread called "singer b - song title b". Both are just linking to video sites, but the links are displaying the singers' names, too. Those should be classified as similar threads, but they aren' t.
