Fatal error: Allowed memory size exhausted

I'm getting this on and off in my beta6 install. It happened while trying to rebuild the search index, as well as when I tried to click on the top logo to return to the front page of the forum. Another user got it while trying to join a usergroup.

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 184320 bytes) in /var/www/html/forums/index.php(358) : eval()'d code on line 77

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 0 bytes) in Unknown on line 0
Any ideas? The details on my server are here. Thanks!

change memory limit in php.ini from 8M to 16M and restart apache and see if that helps - it might be due to PHP 4.1.2 so maybe after PHP upgrade it would fix itself (not a dev so not 100% sure)

in the *nix os it is found in /etc

so the full path would be /etc/php.ini

If you look at your phpinfo() output it will tell you where the file is in the first section.

found the file, but can not seem to upload it after changing it.

I really need to learn how to edit files in ssh
