Store CSS Stylesheets as Files? not working

I selected 'YES' on Store CSS Stylesheets as Files? and I chmod'ed 777 my vbulletin_css/ directory, but the stylesheet .css file isn't being used. The style info is still being included inside the header and NO .css file is saved in said directory.

Running FreeBSD 4_11 RELEASE, I am the admin. This option works fine on a Windoze installation, but why not unix? What am I doing wrong?

Did you chmod the directory first? or second?

If second, disable the option, and re-enable it.
