Minimizing sever strain during thread view updates?

Is it possible set the cron in the Scheduled Task Manager to minimize server strain if I don't really care how often the thread views are updated?

Are you talking about the existing task? Or are you wanting to create a new task? There is already an option to schedule thread view updates:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Server Settings and Optimization Options -> Update Thread Views Immediately

Any attempt to optimize the existing task would require editing its PHP code. I don't see any obvious modification that you could make to optimize that task. Either way, you should post on www.vbulletin.org about this since it requires modifying the files.
