    "How do I" decrease my bandwith usage

    Hi!

    I just moved my forums from a server to my own server and now I realize how many traffic it's eating.

    Almost every minute 15 MB is going to the "HTTP 2.0" part of webalizer.. And that's only with 30 users on the board.
    We knew times when >700 users were browsing the board the same time.

    So I have a few questions:
    1. How can I cause the bandwidth going less fast. Are there tips, tricks and/or options (I already put GZIP to 9 and disabled the HTTP no-cache headers).
    2. I have these columns in Webalizer:
    FTP
    HTTP (Preview) 2.0
    HTTP 2.0
    HTTP Headers (Preview) 2.0
    ==and more and more==

    I understand FTP and HTTP 2.0. But what is HTTP (preview) 2.0 (taking up 0% of used bandwidth) and HTTP Header (preview) (taking up 16%(!) of my used bandwith?

    Lets start with the easy stuff.

    First, TURN OFF GZIP AT LEVEL 9!

    Gzip at level 1 will compress for 25-50% every level after that adds about .2-.3% additonal compression or less. 1 is sufficent.

    Things you can do to improve load times.
    AdminCP > vBulletin Options

    General Settings >
    Use Forum Jump Menu - No
    Add Template Name in HTML Comments - No

    Cookies and HTTP Header Options >
    GZIP HTML Output - Yes
    GZIP Compression Level - 1
    Add No-Cache HTTP Headers - No
    Remove Redirection Message Pages - Yes

    Server Settings and Optimization Options >
    Cached Posts Lifespan - 5

    Style & Language Settings >
    If your server is not in safemode, you can store CSS as a file, instead of having it loaded inline.
    Store CSS Stylesheets as Files? - Yes
    !! NOTE !! Make sure BEFORE you enable this option, the clientscript/vbulletin_css folder is already chmoded to 777 or in windows has the read and write and modify permissions.

    Message Posting and Editing Options >
    Quick Reply Enabled - Either choose Standard editor or Do Not Show Editor Toolbar, the wysiwyg will require atad more bandwidth and load time.

      Hi Zachery!

      1. I turned GZIP down to level 1.
      2. I turned the FJM off.
      3. ATNIHC was already disabled.

      4. GZIP HTML Output was already enabled
      5. GZIP @ 1 -> Done
      6. No Ache -> Off
      7. Redirect -> Off

      8. Cached --> Put on 5 days.

      I don't really understand this option. Are there any negative aspects?

      9. CHMODED that dir to 777 and enabled the option.

      10. QUick on Yes - Do Not Show Editor Toolbar
      =========

      Thx thx!

      I also disabled the backup of the server (1 GB every day :s).

      And do you know about:
      I understand FTP and HTTP 2.0. But what is HTTP (preview) 2.0 (taking up 0% of used bandwidth) and HTTP Header (preview) (taking up 16%(!) of my used bandwith?

        You want the no redirects on so they are disabled

        Preview.. (thinks for a moment) RSS feeds maybe? Not sure to be honest, Scott, Freddie, or Mike might know more.

              I have about > 150 forums but my users are complaining the "forum jump" is missing.
              How many bandwith will this save? Can you give a line? (I know it depends on users and stuff but can you say anything about it?)

                Well.. if there is a150 forums thats 150 extra lines of text on ever page where the forum jump appears .. that is a considerable ammount of extra text on everypage load.
