How should we remove things from templates... delete or comment?

Are there any drawbacks to just commenting things out that you don't want?

ie to not display 'gotonewpost' icon in threadbit.....

I usually just comment things out so I know where they were before.

Not really. There may be a slight performance boost (I'm talking thousandths and ten-thousandths of seconds, probably even less) if you remove them because the PHP parsing engine will have less to go through, but it'd be fairly negligible. However if you're dealing with large chunks of code, you may want to remove them because it's more bandwidth being used.
