Can someone explain searching relevance options ?

I don't get the descriptions for most of the options, and also I do not know where to set the threshold value such that any thread with a search 'value' less than this threshold is not shown when a member does a search for certain keyword(s).

Please explain, anyone?

You can set the threshold score in your:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Message Searching Options -> Similar Threads Relevance Threshold

What I mean is for a normal search, not the similar threads feature which shows on showthread.php ( ie. the results that show on search.php )

Those options allow you to give a higher relevance to posts / threads that were posted more recently and have a higher reply / view / rating counter, respectively. For example, if 2 posts have the same number of word matches, but one was posted more recently, then you can make that post show closer to the top of the search results by adjusting the Search Relevance Date Score option.

Oh I see. I don't know where the regular search gets its threshold.

So those search thresholds aren't exactly useful isn't it, if it cannot be applied to the normal search to turn up more relevant results ....

This is a seven year old thread. The options discussed aren't relevant in vBulletin 4 and have been removed.
