    Registration Problem (Email)

I am experiencing the following problem when new users try to register (I am virtually positive, this all worked ok a few days ago).

I have it set so new users will get the confirming email that they must click on to verify.

    1) New user signs up, system indicates email was sent to them.
    2) The email address used to notify us of a new sign up gets the info concerning the sign up.
    3) The new user NEVER receives the email with the link to click on.

I checked the email diagnostic and email sending is fine, especially since we receive the new sign up info.

To further test things I turned OFF the email verification process. In this scenario the new user doesn't get the welcome email, which I suppose they should ??

Any ideas? I don't like leaving the board open with no email verification.

    Thanks,

    Keith

This problem is usually the result of spam filters blocking the activation emails on the user's end.

What is the URL to your forum? I want to try registering to see if I receive the email.

And the welcome email isn't controlled by the email activation option, it is controlled by this option:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> User Registration Options -> Send Welcome Email

We have traced the problem back to a server config issues of some sort.

From what I can tell (non-techy) vbulletin is not treating all emails the same. As only the verification email is being bounced back to the server with the following errors:

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
      <[email protected]>
      (reason: 553 5.1.8 <[email protected]>... Domain of sender address
      [email protected] does not exist)

So I am guessing some server config issue is at work here, so I will have the more techy people take a look.

It is wierd that other emails are sent fine though.

      Oh well.

        Try enabling this option:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Server Settings and Optimization Options -> Enable "-f" Parameter

Since some email is working, this is a server or mailbox issue. You will need to view the mail logs on the server to see what happened to those emails. Once vB sends it to PHP it's in the hands of the server. If you are on a shared server you may need to ask your host to look through the logs for you.

For what it's worth I get a lot of bounced emails from people who's mail boxes are full, 'unavailable' or over quota. This is a particular problem with hotmail and yahoo accounts. Unless you are on a dedicated server and can set where these bounce messages go, you will never see them. The mail logs will have a record of these though.

Another thing to keep in mind is that many ISPs and mail clients are putting in very aggressive spam filters. It's possible these emails are being placed into a spam folder or are being filtered.

I've asked the system manage to check on the dedicated server. and they say there was a problem with the server RNS. but they've fixed it now. But there are like 75 users in the awaiting for activation user group. How to i force the system to resend them the activation email again?

I've asked 1 member to test it with me. in the Activation user group i've seclected send password. and she can recieve teh passwrod fine but still no activation email. Becoz there isn't a option in the awaiting user group to resend the activation email.

But then again i went to the Scheduled task manager and run the activation reminder email task. but strange in the activation remind email task log i did not see her username. So she still havetn' receive the activation email.

Could you tell me what did i do wrong? what the is the problem and how do i fix it.

Some member can recieve it fine and some member just can't.

Like that special case she can receive the reset password email fine now but after i run the awaiting email reminder task in scheduled task manage she still didn't receive the activation email. Please help me out. thanks

You can send a mass email to the 'Users Awaiting' group and use $activatelink in the body of the message.

Admin CP -> Users -> Send Email to Users

Make sure you only choose the Users Awaiting group.

The webhost redid the rns then most of the email seems fine. but some member still can't recieve email. what's weired is. They are able to receive lost password email. but just not the comfirm email. and i have to send the activelink email by hand daily. What could be wrong? still the web host problem?

If users don't see the activate email ,99% of the activate email usually go into Bulkmail instead of inbox in yahoo mail .and now a day 99% of users used yahoo email .

I got the same problem .i have to remind users to check their bulk mail if they don't see any ...kind of awkward .i try to register in any vB forum i know and the activate email all go into my yahoo bulkmail, even at this forum.
Sorry for my bad english .

What determines how long it takes for a new user email verification to be received? Is there a setting in the Admin CP that can be adjusted?

Activation emails should be sent immediately. Any delay would be the result of processing or queuing on your mail server or on the receiving end.
