    Restore database question

I moved servers and was able to dump and then restore the database on the new server. However, I just realized that I didn't close the old forum after I dumped the db and now there are new posts there. So, I closed those forums and backed up the db again.

So, I've already imported the old database on the new server. But I want to replace that with the new database. The steps for moving servers in the manual refers to importing the database into a new and empty one. Since my db isn't emtpy, is there anything I need to do first, or can I just go ahead and import the new database? If I have to first empty the database, how would I go about doing that?

You really cant just import the new info, unless you want to spend abit of time extracting the specific new data, i suggest restoring the whole new dump instead of specific info

Yes, I would like to restore the whole new dump. Can I just use the command:

      mysql –uUSERNAME –p NEWDBNAME < /PATH/TO/NEW/DUMP.SQL

Will this completely overwrite the current database? Do I first need to emtpy the database, and if so, how?

That didn't work. I got the error:

Error 1050 at line 11: Table 'access' already exists

Do I first need to empty the database?

How do I empty the database? I'm assuming with phpmyadmin, but I don't know the command.

[edit]nm, I just deleted and recreated an empty db. was pretty simple, I should have tried that first.[/edit]
