How do I allow members to use their own AVatars!

    I have two questions:

    1) How do I allow members to use their own avatars?

    2) How do I upload new avatars for the new members using the admin interface?

    1) Go to your:

Admin CP -> Options -> vBulletin Options -> [Avatars]

Enable the Enable Avatars, Allow uploads, and Allow website uploads options.

    2) Go to your:

Admin CP -> Users -> Find

Find the user and edit their profile. Click the Change Avatar button.

This is all I see in the admincp there are no Avatars options in the menu could you please check, I am sure the option your talking about is not there. I cannot find the allow uploads option in the User Picture Options below (I pasted this from the menu):

      User Picture Options

      Avatars Enabled
Use this option to enable/disable the overall use of avatars.

Avatars are small images chosen by the user and displayed under usernames in thread display and user info pages.
      Yes No Avatar Display Width
How many columns of avatars do you wish to display to the user when selecting a pre-defined avatar?
      Avatars Per-Page
How many avatars do you want to display per-page on the 'Edit Avatar' page within the profile editor?
      Profile Pictures Enabled
Use this option to enable/disable the overall use of profile pictures.

Profile pictures are small images (although usually larger than avatars) that users can upload to their profile pages.

You are running vB3. This is the vB2 forum. I will move this thread.

          For vB3...

          1) Edit the permissions for the usergroup in question in your:

Admin CP -> Usergroups -> Usergroup Manager -> Edit Usergroup -> Can Upload Custom Avatars

          Set this to Yes.

          2) Go to your:

Admin CP -> Users -> Search for Users

Find the user and edit their profile. Click the Change Avatar button.

Yes, but you need to use the promotion system

so i would need to make another user group and have them be promoted to it?

and have that user group be allowed to use custom avatars?

This can be done with a group promotion that is based on post count.

Turn off custom avatars for the starting usergroup in your:

Admin CP -> Usergroups -> Usergroup Manager -> Edit Usergroup -> Can Upload Custom Avatars

Set this to No to disable custom avatars for this group.

Also make sure the Allow Users to have Member Groups setting is enabled for this group.

Then create a new group that has permission to use custom avatars:

Admin CP -> Usergroups -> Add New Usergroup

Set all of the new group's permissions to No except for the ability to use custom avatars. The excess No permissions will have no effect on overall permissions because this group is going to be used as a secondary group.

Then create a promotion in your:

Admin CP -> Usergroups -> Promotions -> Add New Promotion

Usergroup = the original group that has no custom avatar priviledges
Reputation Comparison Type = Greater or Equal to
Posts = minimum number of posts before users can use custom avatars
                    Promotion Strategy = Posts
                    Promotion Type = Additional Usergroups
Move User to Usergroup = the new group you just setup

All done. Now members of the original group will be granted custom avatar privs when they reach the specified post count.

well i know there is little that can be done but before i got work for the next 5 hours to fix this i want to protest that this is extremely annoying, the old way was much better, i will have to make 13 new user groups just so my members can get a custom avatar when they reach 1500 posts like it was before

than ill have to recode the site to recognize the 13 new user groups

                      very annoying, why the change?

Why 13 groups? You should only need 1 extra group.

The new system is more versatile as it allows all usergroup permissions to be restricted by post count, join date, and reputation for specific groups. That's why the change.

you should also say this cuz i just figured this out if i am correct

"u can promote someone to a "additional group" so they will be in two groups a primary one and a secondary one and the secondary will have the custom avvy permission"

                          is that correct?

Yes. In my instructions the group with custom avatar permissions is used as a secondary group. In this way the custom avatar permissions are separated from the primary groups so you don't have to create multiple versions of your primary groups to create combinations of permissions.
