Avatars in a non vbulletin directory

I am reorganizing my site to place all images in a subdomain (ie http://images.domain.com/) and have already run into a problem with the avatars. It seems avatars cannot be added using a url (http://images.domain.com/av.gif) and if they are added using a path like ../images/av.gif they do not display. Is there anyway to set up avatars in the manner I have described so they work correctly?

Also am I going to run into any other problems doing it this way?

Subdomains should be logical, the images.domain.com should still exsist somwhere on the hardrive within another folder

    like

forums/images << that can be turned into
    images.domain.com

Thanks for the reply. Not sure why it wasnt working before. Perhaps I was in a bit of a rush. Seems fine now using ../images/ however using images.domain.com doesnt work.

ok, I've figured out what went wrong actually. It works when I dont use a subdirectory for the forums. ie http://mydomain.com/forums/ however if I use http://forums.mydomain.com/ its-a-broken. Any happy way around this?
