    Forum Log In Problems

Why is it that everytime I upgrade the vBulletin software with the latest release, I get complaints from members that they cannot stay logged in to the forums and continue to receive "you are not logged in or not authorized..." messages?

I never had this problem with the 2.x version of the software, but ever since 3.x versions, this always happens after a software upgrade.

Yes, I have photopost and ReviewPost installed, however they are installed on their own databases.

don't know why exactly ... there is no specific setting

Nope. Photopost uses the vBulletin database as the member/registration system. Only forum members can access the features of Photopost, but I have not integrated photopost into vBulletin in any way.

The only hack I'm using is the vBAdvanced homepage hack from vBulletin.org, but that shouldn't have any effects on member log-in.

Here is just one of several emails I've received from members:

COMMENTS: Had to log-in this AM, for the 1st time in months... ? Used correct ID #, but was refused... ? Contacted you via same; given link & told to 'DELETE COOKIES", which I did. Logged-in successfully...

Come back this afternoon; had to log-in AGAIN...

                    ?

                    wouldn't accept my ID #...

                    ?

                    Tried using the link from earlier this day;

says no thread at that link...

                    ?

Am I doing something wrong here?

Will I have to log-in EVERYTIME I use the Forum?

And I just received this one. Since when did member passwords change to numerical ones in the database!?!?!?

                      Hi Rob,

Sorry to bother you but I was "freaking out". I originally used a verbal word which I had to change a while back I believe due to a software change on your end. That was then changed to 59031050 then maybe through my error and panicking, or the new software change as of recent, I had to change it to 56129979 and it seems to now be OK with 26691430.

                        And this:

The only thing I've noticed is that I am now prompted to log in every time I visit. That didn't used to happen- the cookies planted in my 'puter made it possible for the forums to recognize me whenever I navigated here, so I didn't have to log in each time.

But I've had no recognition problems when I do log in.

                        -Patrick

So what should the cookie settings be in the administrative panel????

You can try running this script to see if this fixes things:

I type in my username and password...it says 'Thank you for Logging In' and it brings me back to the login. ...and every time, it adds an & to the query string (ignore the brackets...the s was stripped when I posted this): non-pro/testvb/admincp/?&&&[s]=b5a4940b657941fe8515e1ca1a4b2d7f

And your users may need to run this:

In wake of more threads from people saying they can't login / stay logged in i've made this script. Upload this script to your main forum and send the users who are having problems to it. This should allow them to remove their cookies. It doesn't just attempt to move them via one method but two. It attempts to remove them

If after doing this you still have these problem then you will need to restore the original vB files in order to get further support. If you can duplicate these problems with the original code, then let us know and we may need you to fill out a support ticket.

Also you may want to remove any additional code you've added to the headinclude, header or phpinclude templates since these too can sometimes cause problems.
