Does vBulletin definitely require MySQL?

Hi, I'm thinking of purchasing vBulletin, but I have a question. I read that vBulletin erquires MySQL to work, and this is a problem, as my server doesn't come with MySQL, and I have no idea how to install it. My friend tried to, but it wouldn't work.

So, does vBulletin defintely require MySQL, or is it just a recommended feature for faster access (like Ultraboard).

What do you mean? Do you mean that Ultraboard actually requires MySQL, even though it says it doesn't?

Vbulletin must have mySQL to work. Period.
