Admin panel connects to vbulletin.com?

I never noticed before, but when logging into my Admin contral panel it reaches out to "version.vbulletin.com" and "www.vbulletin.com"

So since I was having trouble reaching vbulletin, my control panel was taking forever to load. What exactly is the panel doing when it reaches out, and is it necessary to do so?

Checks your version number to tell you about updates and stuff.

its fixed in vB3, we check the server works before we do anything.
