I am getting ready for a move of sites and would like to use the MYSQL from the new dedicate server we got before I actually move the site over. So can I setup in the config file for it to connect to an IP instead of localhost and if so what ports do I need opened for in and out to make this happen? Anything else I need to know? Running mysql-3.23.55-1ct if that matters. TIA.
How to use a remote MYSQL server?

You can try setting thwe IP but for this to work the remote server will need to be configured to allow connections from your server.Steve Machol, former vBulletin Customer Support Manager (and NOT retired!)

I may be talking in the wrong direction but
my vbulletin connects to a host which is not my server
of course, my tech guy had to make that possible
anyway,
I am new to mysql, and I just wanted to say this much in hopes
that the guy asking the question, or others may be able to use my weak tidbit of info in possibly coming to understand the possiblity
thanks
