Very Large File Size

Hi,

My forum has been up for about 3 days, the file size is already over 15 megs, i woud like to know if this is normal? The mysql is only 1 meg, but it my host (mediatemple) has been showing that my space used has been going up.. around 3+megs a day. Im worried that at this rate i will run out of space, i cant rfind anything that would be contributing to the large file size, and i havnt uploaded anything to bring it up that high.

What 'file size' is this? The only thing that grows with vBulletin is the database.

Im assuming that it is VBulletin, since i installed it the file size has been going up, could it be an option i checked off?

The vBulletin files do not 'grow' in size. They remain the same size unless you purposely upload new files. Only the database grows and this depends entirely on how busy your forums are.

By any chance are you confusing 'file size' with 'bandwidth'?

Im positive that im not confusing the two (im not new to this). I posted because i found this very odd, i thought it must be an option in vb that a checked off. It might be just mediatemple, i sent them an email.. but other then vb theres nothing that could be doing this.

As I said, the vB files do not grow. Where exactly are you getting this '15 megs' figure from? Are they including the database in your file space?

The database is exactly 1 meg at the moment..

Before i installed vb i had 15mb of space used.. i checked my admin cp to see how my bandwidth was holding up this mornign and i noticed that the storage space was 28mb, when i posted this topic it was 30mb, and right now it is 33mb.. i am clueless to why this is happening.

Me too - but I can assure you that the vB files aren't changing in size or multiplying. Start looking through your directories and see what you find.

Recently, mediatemple has been counting the size of your mySQL database as part of the total space your site takes up. This isn't something that was done in the past, but recently they have been doing that. You may want to check one of the var folders that contains the mySQL databases. That may be where the space increases are coming from

Assuming your host-site user control panel does not show you the size of your files(?) how about logging onto your site using TELNET or similar then looking at the various sizes of all of your files. With things increasing by 3MB a day, the troublesome file doing this should stand out like a sore thumb when viewing file sizes.
