securing the site with SSL?

This probably sounds a bit silly for a bulletin board but...

My client want to secure his board using SSL. I can't see any reason other than performacne why this shouldn't work.

Has anyone tried it or have any info on what imoact this might have?


I think my clinet might be a bit confused on what this will actually do for him so also wondering if anyone has info on storing data on the site in an encrypted format?

There should be no impact on performance except for the encryption and decryption of the data.

The data will not be stored in an encrypted format. SSL has nothing to do with data storage, only the transmission of the data over the Internet.

I think my client want to encrypt the data on the data base as well - does anyone have any info on doing this? I realise the search functino will become almost completly useless - but you have to give them what they ask for!
