Can you upload avatars or smilies in the Admin CP? What happens when you try?

Upload the phpinfo.php file from the 'extras' directory of the zip file to your forums directory. Then post the URL here. This will help us troubleshoot the problem.

Hmmm...I don't see anything in phpinfo that would cause a problems with uploads.

If you have not installed any hacks, fill out a support ticket at:

Be sure to include the login info to your Admin CP and FTP. If you have installed hacks, then remove the hacks first before filling out the support request.

I have a few hacks installed that affect the index.php, but that's about it. I know that it has nothing to do with hacks.

Last night my dedicated server/account was moved over to a new box and that is when the problems started.
They were supposed to just copy the entire drive to a new server and leave everything in tact, but obviously something is different or has been changed.

          does that help?

also, I edited the my.cnf file per eva's advice so that sql could write to a temp diertory, and that resolved a few problems that were giving database errors.

As I said we'll need to look at your vB setup and files. You can submit a support ticket but I can't guarantee we won't still have to ask you to remove your hacks.

By the way - If you come across a resolution to this, please post it as part of this thread as I'm having the same problem, but it's a closed intranet site - no people other than employees are allowed on to our LAN to tinker with it.

I can post attachments like word docs, small pdf files, etc., but when I get around 3MB and higher, it says "thanks for posting", but the file isn't there. I'm running Linux Apache 2.0.42/PHP 4.2.3/MySQL 3.23.52. This is also regardless of the setting I have in the vB control panel.

              Thanks!

For your problem check and see what the upload buffer is set to in PHP and make sure that both it and MySQL can handle inserts larger than what you want to allow.

Most servers already have /tmp chmod'd to 777. In fact this is the first server I've seen where that wasn't the case. Consequenly it's not the first thing we think of when trying to troubleshoot these problems.
