    Updating 2.2.8 to 2.2.9

The guy who installed vB on our server left the team, thus I tried to figure out how to update to 2.2.9 but I'm afraid the "Upgrade instructions for vBulletin 2.2.9 Release Candidate" are not really an instruction to me...
I made a database backup, I made a complete server backup, I downloaded the update and unZIPed it. What do I have to do next?

    The instruction says:
    1) Upload all the files except install.php
Well I have two folders, one is called "upload", the other "extras". There is no "install.php" in either.
To what directory shall I upload these folders?

    2) Load up the following web pages in your web browser.
Is that the "following": "http://your.site/forums/admin/upgrade22.php" ?
If yes, where do I find the "upgrade22.php"?

    3) When you are done, be sure to delete all the upgradex.php scripts.
    What "upgradex.php"?

    Hope someone can help me!

    Thanks!

    1) You need to upload the files in the 'upload' folder overwriting your older files.

    2) When you upload all of the files in the 2.2.9 zip, all of the upgrade scripts will also be uploaded. Simply run them in your browser.

For example, if your forums are located at http://yoursite.com/forums
Your upgrade22.php script will be found at http://yoursite.com/forums/admin/upgrade22.php

    3) That means delete all of the scripts starting with 'upgrade' then a number in your admin directory. (i.e. upgrade22.php, upgrade21.php, upgrade20.php, etc)

OK, there was no old upload folder, thus i just uploaded it into the root folder of our site.
Now I still don't know what I am supposed to do. "Simply run them in your browser." Run what? Or am I supposed to replace each of the old files with the new ones manually?
Is the "upgrade22.php" some file created after I run some script?

Sorry, but I hope you still can help me...

You need to overwrite your old files of vBulletin with the new 2.2.9

After you do that, run the appropriate scripts for the version you are upgrading from ( http://www.vbulletin.com/members/upgrade.html )

For example, if you are upgrading from 2.2.8, run http://your.site/forums/admin/upgrade22.php

If you are upgrading from 2.2.7, run

What happens to installed hacks? I do not have that many hacks but I would hate to redo them all.

Is there a way around this? Could I just upload the old modified php files with the rest of the new 2.2.9 files?

              Thanks,
              Alex

That wouldn't be a smart thing to do, plus it has a great security risk. You could try it, but we're not responsible if anything 'bad' happens...

Avatars are not currently enabled because it's now an usergroup option, and an administator on this site didn't give anyone permission yet.

So basically everytime I update the software I would have to redo the hacks.

                            OK, thanks!
Now I knew what to do and it woked fine - just the thing with the hacks is dissapointing and that that the changed templates are only in English...

                            But thanks again
