    Upgrade Question

Do I need to turn off my bbs first? What about the mod folder?

yup best to turn off forums and back them up via telnet/ssh before you follow the upgrade guide at http://vbulletin.com/members/upgrade.html

you need to backup using telnet/ssh - guide at http://www.webmasterbase.com/article/678

download the same *.php or *.php3 as your current install (although at one stage you might want to move to *.php if you are on *.php3 files)

upload all vB 2.2.7 php files and overwrite the ones in /admin /mod and root directory

        what i do

        1. backup database into sql file
        2. create new database
        3. import backup sql file into new database in step2 - at this stage you will have a new databasename with old vB version backup
        4. create a new directory /vbulletin227
        5. upload all new vB 2.2.7 files to /vbulletin227 except /install.php
        6. edit /vbulletin227/admin/config.php and point database to databasename you created in step2
        7. now on /vbulletin227/admin directory run the upgradeXX.php scripts as directed at http://vbulletin.com/members/upgrade.html

        ie.

        /vbulletin227/admin/upgradeXX.php?step=1 etc etc

this will upgrade a duplicate copy of your original old vB version database leaving the original intact if you make a mistake (110% fool proof)

now if you mess up all you have to do is do steps 2, 3, 6 and 7 again (all the time your original database is untouched )
