      okay before you do that

      hsphere allows mysql to be on a separate server but the error i see on your forum's source code is

      Code:
      <!-- Database error in vBulletin :

      Link-ID == false, connect failed
      mysql error: Access denied for user: '[email protected]' (Using password: YES)

      mysql error number: 1045

      Date: Wednesday 11th of September 2002 07:16:07 AM
      Script: /forums/
      Referer: [url]http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=346926#post346926[/url]
       -->
      meaning either password for gavin is incorrect or the ip address for mysql server is incorrect...

      tell your host that you're getting this error

      Link-ID == false, connect failed
      mysql error: Access denied for user: '[email protected]' (Using password: YES)

      and confirm that your mysql username gavin and password and mysql server ip is correct

        sql1.infinology.com (216.89.24.247)

        THis is my sql server information. I can see that the ip address is different from the one shown in the error message "sql1.infinology.com (216.89.24.247)".

                    i'd recommend you install a 2nd private test copy and test that while leaving this first test install alone... that way you can find out if it's the server problem or a vB problem by comparing the 2

                      very good idea!

                      will do that right now!

                      Also, if i create a back up, would the back up be lost if the above problems re-occur???

                      Is there any way to back up off the server?
