grab forumid (ex: 36) from showthread page?

I need to pull the forumid variable on the showthread page, what is the variable name?

I've succesfully done it for the forumdisplay page: $forumid

Ont he showthread page, it *seems* to be $forum[forumid] (what spits the forumid number for the "newthread" button) but I couldnt succesfully create an "if" condition testing for it... it doesnt work.
