Killing unnecessary stuff at bottom of category-like page

    Hi all,

Because I really like how parent forums look as opposed to using categories, I have this page:

I want to kill all of the icon legends, admin options, etc. because what I'm really trying to do is use this as a category, so no one can ever post to it. I need a modified version of $forumdisplay, but if I try to copy and paste that into where it says $forumbits in $forumdisplay_forumslist, the results are disastrous.

What's the safest way to kill these unnecessary items from forumdisplay_forumslist?

How is a parent forum "better" looking from a category? They both use the exact same templates, only categories don't have all the stuff at the bottom that you don't want.

On forums home, categories come up as a single band, whereas parent forums are segmented. It's just easier on the eyes when you want to give your categories descriptions. See how pretty http://discuss.pocketnow is?

Parent forums and categories are the same thing; a category is a parent forum set to not allow posting.

Did that, and after a bunch of hacking, got the cats to look nice. However, why does:

          Still show post/thread icons?

Is Unit Specific set as a category?

Yes. All parent categories (Unit Specific, General Discussion, Community, pocketnow Content, Authorized Support Forums) that you see are set to:

              Act as a forum? No.
