    Upgrading from 2.2.8 to 3.0+

    Greetings,

We've just acquired a forum that's running off of VB 2.2.8, and I'm wondering how to go about upgrading it to 3.0+

    I've done dozens of 3.x.x to 3.x.x upgrades, but never a 2.2.x to 3.0...

My main problem is, as stated in the manual, that I'll need to upgrade to 2.2.9 or above...but where can I get those source files?

Can I apply a 3.6.8 source or 3.5.5 source to the old version, or, if not, how should I proceed.

    Thanks,

Do the following this this order.
    1. Backup
    2. Upgrade to 2.3.0
    3. Backup
    4. Upgrade to 3.7.
You should be able to directly upgrade once you're on 2.3

      Thanks for your help!

The main problem is that since we took over the server, and not the VB member account of the previous owner, I can't get access to the 2.3.0 source package.

Is there anywhere I can get those files if all my current owned liscenses are 3.6+

      ?

      Thanks!

You will need at least 2.2.9 to upgrade to 3.0.

I recommend to properly upgrade from 2.2.8 to 2.3.11
And then upgrade to 3.7.3 PL1.

If your owned license has expired, you will need to renew the expiry date to get access to the latest builds.

          Thanks,

But how do I download a 2.2.9 update? I do not have control of the account this forum was registered to. if I buy a new license it'll give me access to 3.7+ only, correct?

Is there a method for customers to obtain older packages to properly upgrade sites before 3.x.x or will I need to talk to licensing to move the account to my customer number?

          Thanks,

You would be able to download 2.3.5. If you do not have access to the account and the license owner won't do this, then you'd meed to purchase your own license.

              Thanks!

The owner found his old files, thanks!
