:: how do i import my database using phpMyAdmin? ::

this is what i have been doing so far.

    - Install vBulletin.
    - Configure vBulletin.

when thats all done, i run phpMyAdmin, then i import my backup from my old board. it starts importing, but when its nearly finished i get an error, and then it corrupts the database or something.

    oldserver = backup
newserver = trying to import backup from oldserver

i was going to try the thing that was posted on how to import it, but i dont have telnet access on both servers.

is there meant to be a special method or step to backup and import to another server? i have successfully imported users, "forum", threads, posts, moderators.

but when i try to access sections of the control panel, like "User Groups and Permissions" and make some settings, when i try to save it, i get an error.

if vBulletin has a utility that "backup" the database, why doesnt it have an "import" utitlity for when people change servers?

    Thanx in advance,
    From a newbie to vBulletin.

As far as I know, there is no reliable way to import your db using phpMyAdmin.

Please enter your vB license info into your user profile. See my sig for details. Thanks.

Bad luck! I've never dealt with a web host that doesn't allow shell access. You could try asking your web host to restore the backup for you.

You may want to try cutting the .sql file into smaller pieces because phpmyadmin can't handle large dumps at once.

Mysqlman from gossamer threads may give you better luck at importing a database dump. If the dump was created with phpMyAdmin than you may have no luck without removing all binary information in the backup .sql file (avatars, attachments, etc).

the database backup was created using vBulletin's backup option. i have also tried backing up the database into smaller sections, and importing them. and no luck. i keep getting an error with phpMyAdmin. i am still waiting on the webhosting for a reply if they can import it for me, as you can that i have no bloody idea how to do it.

Okay from the old server i did a database backup. I did the backup using vBulletin's Backup Utility. Backed up everything.

I uploaded "dump.sql" to the new server, I then connected to my new server (telnet/SSH), I then used "mysql -uUSERNAME -pPASSWORD databasename < /path/to/dump.sql"

                      That operation was successful.

But when I goto login to the Control Panel I get database errors. Another error I get is if I try to edit my "User CP" I get this.

Database error in vBulletin: Invalid SQL: SELECT *
                      FROM profilefield
                      WHERE editable = 1
                      ORDER BY displayorder
mysql error: Unknown column 'editable' in 'where clause'
                      mysql error number: 1054

If it imported successfully, isnt it just meant to work?
