Firstly, teedeegee19, UK law does not allow disclaimer of liability in many instances. There is such a thing as unfair contract terms and a disclaimer of liability can be classed as an unfair contract term (even if you agreed to the terms when the contract starts). I have done UK contract law at college and I have taken legal advice already. One of the very few disclaimer of liability terms that is enforeable is when you park a car in a car park and there is sign that says "Cars parked at owner's risk. We are not liable for damage or theft". As a programmer who writes and sells programs, I know that a disclaimer of liability is a waste of time when trying to avoid liability if a program is defective. That is why I have liability insurance - so that I am covered if something goes wrong.
Also, thanks for calling me dumb. I would have to say that, from the tone of your email and your lack of knowledge of the facts of this problem, shows that you are quite immature. "didn't want to ask for help"? No idea what planet you are on. Maybe you should stick to posting on topics that you have knowledge about (which certainly would have nothing to do with legal matters).
It is very easy to click the wrong link - I was used to clicking on the bottom link on every page of the installation. I realised as soon as I had clicked the link what I had done. But any normal program would ask for confirmation before doing such a drastic action (being a programmer I always have a program request for confirmation when deleting files). Even Ed Sullivan said "We are, however, clarifying that link and adding a confirmation box stating exactly what is done. " and so they must realise that something is missing from the program. Try deleting files in Windows and see if you get confirmation. Of course you do. So why not in VBulletin? It is a fact of life that occassionally people will click the wrong button or wrong link so confirmation would be nice.
Secondly, in response to tubedogg: I cannot understand why the program needs to delete everything in a database. What is the point of this? The programmers are lazy. It's that simple. I certainly do not think that your programmers anticipated somebody having tables in the same database as VBulletin.
I have a dedicated server and the way the server is configured is to have one mysql database per account on the server. The database name is always the account name. They do not charge to set-up more databases as this service is not available. If it was, then I would be able to do it myself as I have full access to the server.
Also, the databases are always backed up - several times a day. And it's done automatically. The problem I had is that the database was cleared immediately before the next back-up was done. The new back-up overwrites the old back-up. As my tables contained over 300,000 records, the back-up is about 200MB in size and so it isn't very practical to keep more than one back-up on the server at a time.
I filled in the online support help form. Did I get a response? No. I only got a response to my postings here.
