Deleting Or Pruning Records and Posts

What is the difference between Deleting threads out of a forum and Pruning the database through the AdminCP?

Don't they both accomplish the same thing in general?

Pruning the database to delete posts and threads through the AdminCP seems to take alot longer then just deleting the threads directly out of a forum.

Is there any difference between the two processes?

Through the admin control panel you can prune a complete forum, bunch of threads according to conditions or users.

Through the forum it is one thread at a time. And you can't prune users or forums or multiple threads.

      Thank you for the reply,
But I guess what I am asking is............
Do they both do the same thing as far as the database is concerned?

Is all the data for a thread deleted from the database using both the Prune method and or the Delete thread method (Delete Forum method), or does one of the methods leave some traces of the thread still in the database?

Im trying to find the best method of trimming down and (Cleaning) the database by deleting old threads and posts or complete forums that will completly remove any trace of those old posts from the database.
