Page Limit Problem

Over at DF3.NET we have a thread that has spanned 149 pages, with a total of 2211 posts. However, although people can still post to the thread no more pages are added...hence its impossible to see the latest posts.

Here is the thread url:

When I went to that thread I saw pages up to 149, is that the last one? :)

Nope - there should be more than 149 - at least 150 pages.

I looked at it, and you can get up to the 159th page in the thread, but beyond 149, you have to specify the page number yourself.

I think that this is because the thread post counter has got out of sync slightly (or a lot!). Try doing an update of the threads in the control panel, and let me know what the results are.

Thanks,
John

I'm having the same problem at the SDMB at http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=28843&pagenumber=4 We actually have about 212 posts in this thread, but it's only displaying 198 in the forum list, and page 5 doesn't show up as a link although you can reach it if you specify the page in the URL. It also doesn't "bump up" in the forum list when people post to it; I posted earlier tonight and it still shows the last post as being first thing this morning.

We just recently upgraded to 1.1.3. It is killing our server, for undetermined reasons. We had long thread problems with the older version too, though. It seems to be an issue with sheer word volume, rather than number of posts, IMHO; at least, we're only having long thread problems in my forum, where people tend to post long, essay-type posts. Forums with less wordy posters don't seem to be having the same problems I do.

I had topics with well over 1000 posts and no problems before my database crashed due to a power failure.

here is one example (right at 1500 posts)

http://beta.atforumz.com/showthread.php?threadid=104&pagenumber=lastpage

I haven't reached 150 pages yet, though, and can't imagine doing so...
