We have just learned that someone registered the AIM name 'vBulletinJason'. This is NOT a member of our staff. We don't know what the purpose of this registration was, but in the past several people have misrepresented themselves as Jelsoft Staff and tried to get confidential information from licensed customers.
Please note that it is very rare for anyone from Jelsoft to contact you unsolicited via AIM or any other IM system. And never would we do this and ask you to confirm license information or offer you special 'deals' on licenses. If you are contacted in such a way, please report this to us at [email protected].
Also if you are ever contacted via email, the only legitimate contacts will be from email addresses with the 'vbulletin.com' domain name. In addition, also check the Reply-To in the header and make sure it also includes a vbulletin.com address. Many viruses and worms now forge the From field to make it appear the email is coming from somewhere else.
The bottom line is that you should be very cautious with any contacts from someone claiming to be part of the Jelsoft Staff. And when in doubt, please write [email protected] for confirmation.
