What's the proper way to add additional content to the site header and footer?

I have vBulletin 5.4 installed and I need to add a special drop down to the site header and I need to add some additional text to the site footer. What is the proper way to add this additional content to the site header and footer?

Using template hooks is the proper way to add items like this. You would create a new template to hold your menu and add it to the header via one of the available hooks. Same with the footer text.

You create custom templates in the AdminCP under Styles -> Style Manager. It is an option for each style on the drop down.

You can assign custom templates to hooks in the AdminCP under Hooks & Products -> Manage Template Hooks.
