Is it possible to run an upgrade after a fresh install of 5.4?

Hi guys. I am the one that has been posting a lot about my troubles after a 4.1 to 5.3.4 upgrade. Thank you for all the help.

I just did a fresh install(no existing database) of 5.4 and all my issues seem to be fixed.

But now I need to migrate my old vBulletin 4.1 database over. Can I now run upgrade.php even though I have already run install.php?

I feel like I need to manually edit bburl and homeurl(because I am using a different URL for testing) in the copy of my 4.1 database setting table before I run upgrade.php. Does that make sense? Anything else I should do?

The database structures of vBulletin 4 are completely different to vBulletin 5.

You can run upgrade.php but to so you need to have the fresh installation pointing at the vB4 database rather than the fresh vB5 database. So the only thing that would be consistent would be the php files.

You also need to make sure that the URL settings in the admincp reflect where the installation actually is - otherwise you won't be able to log in afterwards.

Yes, I understand all that. Except for how to keep my URLs correct.

I am just doing a test upgrade right now. My 5.4 clean install test site is at:

      mysite.com/test/

I have made a copy of my live vBulletin 4.1 database for testing. In the setting table of this 4.1 test database bburl and homeurl are:

      mysite.com

So shouldn't I manually change those to:

      mysite.com/test

before I run upgrade.php on that test database?

Yes you should change the URL to match the location of the test site.

What's important though is that you must realise your fresh installation has NO bearing on any of this whatsoever.
