Performance?

In summer 2016 I upgraded my vB 4.x installation to the latest vB 5 version. I was facing with massive performance issues, which crashed finally the database. I had to roll-back with my backup, where I lost some postings and threads.
Are there any major changes since them which improves the performance to give vB5 another try?

Performance was considerably improved from 5.3.4 onwards.

However 'crashed the database' is meaningless. We'd need to know what actually happened. Symptoms, error messages, etc.

As with all major upgrades, you should always upgrade a test mirror of your site first, rather than the live site, so you can see how it will look, feel and operate post-upgrade.
