Vbb not going to proper directory

Have never had this problem. I have vbb 5.2.5 running on the same server and both config files are the same.

Vbb always wants to go to the root rather than ./core/ and therefore gives a 404 error.
For admincp, it tries to go to : http://www.xxxx.com/discussions/admincp/ which is a 404.
I get to the login by going to http://www.xxxx.com/discussions/core/admincp/ but when I input credential get another 404
Correcting the url (http://www.xxxx.com/discussions/core/login.php?do=login gets me to vbb but it is full of 404 errors and not found, etc

    Any thoughts?

vBulletin 5 does everything virtually. It isn't going to the wrong directory, it's that your rewrite rules are not working for whatever reason.

However, you should upgrade to 5.3.4 in the first instance, as 5.2.5 is obsolete and unsupported. You should also make sure php is at least 5.6, and that the .htaccess file is present in the forum root and has been renamed from htaccess.txt to .htaccess.

Upgrading the 5.2.5 install is the least of my problems. The problem is with a clean install of vb5_connect_5-3-4_Patch_Level_1.

My initial problem with the 404 was that the ftp prog did not copy over the blank folder. I re-downloaded, re-extracted, re-uploaded, and re-installed. Basically same problem:
Get a listing of the root admincp directory which is empty.

      Any thoughts?

The problem is in the htaccess.
I replaced the htaccess with that from the working 5.2.5 installation and I get properly redirected to the forum and the admincp.
BUT I cannot log into the admincp to make any adjustments/changes as it does not recognize the usder/pass

Comparing htaccess to see if I can figure out the problem. If anyone has an idea, that would be great!

Try logging into the main site before logging into the admincp.

That is fine as a workaround but should not be necessary, you should be able to log in directly. The inability to do so may manifest itself as problems elsewhere so it should be rectified.

Have you changed the cookie prefix in either of the config files? As it MUST be the same in BOTH config files.

The cookie prefix were not the same and that resolved the login problem but not the bigger problem:

Thje htaccess file for 5.3.4 Patch level 1 gives me a 404. I am, using the htaccess for 5.2.5.
I dont see a big difference in the 2 and deleted the differences in 5.3.4 does not resolve.
                Strange ....

No critical difference between the two....you don't need to replace .htaccess with every upgrade though, that's why we rename it to htaccess.txt so it doesn't overwrite.
If the 5.2.5 version works, stick with that. Could be a corrupted download.
