I can't find a file 'config.php' to edit it. What to do?
Installation vB 5 on server

The file is named "config.php.new" in the installation package.
It is located in the upload / core / includes folder.
Be sure to rename the file "config.php" after you upload it to the server. -

1. Download the newest vB5 release from the members' area. https://members.vbulletin.com
2. Unzip the files and go to the "upload" folder.
3. You need to rename this file:
/config.php.bkp
To:
/config.php
Then, you need to rename this file:
/core/includes/config.php.new
To:
/core/includes/config.php
Then, in that file, you need to complete the following fields:
PHP Code:$config['Database']['dbname'] = 'forum';
PHP Code:$config['Database']['technicalemail'] = '[email protected]';
PHP Code:$config['MasterServer']['username'] = 'root';
PHP Code:$config['MasterServer']['password'] = '';
All other fields should be left as default, unless your database is on a separate server, in which case this will need changing:
PHP Code:$config['MasterServer']['servername'] = 'localhost';
4. Upload all files to your server/webspace/whatever and browse to yourforumpath.com/core/install/install.php.
5. Enter your customer number and the installation will proceed.
6. Delete the /core/install directory after the installation has finished.MARK.B

In a shared hosts, in general you receive an account, something such as /home/(your username)/, and the equivalent to /var/www/html turns to /home/(your username)/public_html/ (or something similar, such as /home/(your username)/www, for example)
Usually, you do not need to enter the absolute path into the config.php file. I would try removing it. It may be the reason the install.php file cannot be located, provided you have uploaded the files to the correct location.Comment

That path doesn't sound correct.

Outside of the database credentials there is normally nothing in either config file that needs to be edited in a standard fresh install.MARK.B

A 404 error means either 1) the file is blocked or 2) the server is misconfigured.
For 1, reupload the /install directory.
For 2, you need to contact your hosting provider.Translations provided by Google.
