    Fatal Error while Upgrading 4.2.3 to 5.3.0

    Good day,

    I have been running VB 4.2.3 on IndianVapers.com domain. I wanted to upgrade it to the latest VB version. So I created a duplicate database of the main database (which is linked to the installation on the root). The duplicate database is linked to the VB5 installation which is being done in a new folder (indianvapers.com/vb5new). I have already edited the config file in core/includes and uploaded all VB5 files to the server through FileZilla FTP to the vb5new folder.

    When I ran the upgrade script from IndianVapers.com/vb5new/core/install/upgrade.php, I got the following error ..

    Action Required
    Unexpected Text:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="windows-1252"?>
    <br />
    <b>Fatal error</b>: Call to a member function validateCpsession() on a non-object in <b>/home/indiana/public_html/vb5new/core/vb/api.php</b> on line <b>638</b><br />

    Script: 500a1
    Step: 64

    I got 3 errors in total .. Posting screenshots of all three errors ..

    Each time, I restarted the upgrade process. Now it has gone all the way but I suspect there will be problems. I'm still testing to see if there are any issues with the upgraded forum.

    Please advice what is the reason for this error and how can I fix it?

    Thanks for your help.
    Adarsh.

        Well, I restarted the upgrade process over and again until it went all the way to 100%

        The new forum seems to be up and working fine. Not too sure what obstacles I will have to tackle. Will inform in case anything not working properly.

        Thanks for the support.

          You need to be running php 5.6 as a minimum for vB 5.3.0.

            Hello Mark,

            InMotionHosting currently does not support PHP 5.6
            But I went ahead and used vB5 Connect and it seems to be working fine. I hope I don't run into any problems with it, fingers crossed. So far all seems well.

            Thanks for your support!
            Regards.

              It sad to hear that InMotion doesn't support PHP 5.6 or 7. I think this limitation is just for Shared plans? But there are other hosts out there that support PHP 7.1 even for Shared plans. PHP 5.5 and below are now "end of life" and are no longer supported by PHP group and have unpatched security vulnerabilities. See link below for more details.

                Further to Glenn's post - you should find a new host.
