Error when entering desired user name

So I thought I had everything working correctly but it seems not.
I wanted to test the registration form and the fields I had added to make it the same as my live forum.

If you enter your desired user name and then click on the password field a box pops up with "An unexpected error was returned: 'Call to undefined function iconv_strlen()'"
You can only click the OK button in the box, the box then goes and the user name is deleted.

Any idea what the problem is now?

I just logged out of the vbulletin.com site and looked at the registration page.
So it seems that any new user name entered is checked against the name being already registered.

The same type of box pops up to tell you that the name is already in use.

So how do I solve the problem I have?

I have checked the php.ini file and iconv extension is there and on.
So the rest is string length?
Any pointers please?

Ok, so I will explain what the issue is just in case it can ever help another member.

On the Synology NAS DS214 Play I can select PHP7 or PHP 5.6

There seems to have bit a bit of a cock up at Synology and cURL support is not included in the PHP 7 build, there are 2 choices, either select PHP5.6 instead in the Web Station or add cURL support by following the instructions available on the included link.
