Installing Patches

Hello,

Installing patches - it states to simply copy of the files to the FTP and thats about it, no need to run scripts.
So why is there the core/install folder included with the scripts in there?
Simply copying the files over and you get the warning that the install folder exists.
Why have the install folder in the patch, if its not required?
And if it is required, why does it say no script is required to be run?

Please advise. Do I just copy it over and delete the install folder from the core folder, or do I have to run the upgrade.php script first before deleting the folder?

i didnt think install dir was in those patches?

Yeah that's the whole question.

The last few patches I have had, has had the install directory in them.
I ran the upgrade patch last time, and have had a number of issues since and I dont know if that is due to running the script when I shouldn't, or something else.

I need to know if I need to run it, or just delete the directory.

What patch are you trying to install?

Some patches have additional instructions. Each patch release is cumulative though.

5.1.4 patch 8 which was just released.

we are going to be upgrading to 5.1.10 or whatever is out latest later this month, but just want to patch for security now.
We are on 5.1.4 patch 6 at the moment.

its just confusing as to why it has the install folder in there if its not required, and instructions say you dont run any scripts, but the scripts are there....

The install folder would have been included for an earlier patch. This one: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum...in-5-1-4-5-1-6

If you were already patched to PL6 or PL7, then you can just delete it.
